Telebase vs Vonage Number Insight

Vonage Number Insight is a number intelligence product covering carrier, number type and validity data. It is being sunset and will end on 4 February 2027; the replacement is Vonage Identity Insights, a new product. Telebase is a specialist fraud and KYC signal API at $0.03 per lookup, with SIM swap detection priced separately at $0.20 per check and no annual commitment. This page compares the two on signals, pricing and access model, with notes on the Vonage migration for teams currently integrated with Number Insight.

Pricing

Vonage Number Insight pricing is country-variable rather than a single global rate. Exact costs depend on the country of the phone number and the tier of lookup requested (Basic, Standard or Advanced); per-country rates are available from the Vonage dashboard after account creation.

Telebase is $0.03 per lookup regardless of the country queried, and invalid numbers and failed requests are not charged. Carrier, number type and active status are all included in that lookup price; SIM swap is a separate $0.20 check, billed only when requested. Neither rate varies by country, in contrast to the tiered, country-variable model described above. Free queries are provided when your account is set up. See carrier lookup API pricing compared for a three-provider overview.

The replacement: Vonage Identity Insights

Vonage's replacement for Number Insight is Vonage Identity Insights, a new product that includes SIM swap detection alongside carrier and number type data. Telebase's SIM swap signal is built on the GSMA Open Gateway / CAMARA network standard that the industry is converging on for SIM swap queries.

Teams currently on Vonage Number Insight will need to evaluate whether to migrate to Identity Insights or move to an alternative. The migration is not automatic: Identity Insights is a different product with different integration requirements. If you are mid-evaluation, factor in the February 2027 deadline.

Which is right for you

Consider staying in the Vonage ecosystem if:

You are already using Vonage Communications APIs for SMS or voice, and consolidating vendors matters more than per-query cost. Migrating to Identity Insights keeps you in a familiar integration and support environment.

Consider Telebase if:

You want fraud and KYC signals on a flat per-query price with no annual commitment; you want SIM swap access without running your own carrier registration; or you are evaluating alternatives before the Number Insight sunset and want to compare against a specialist tool. See also the broader comparison of Twilio Lookup alternatives which covers several options in this space.
